ironrange3Iron Range Cabins are located at the historic Lockhart River Aerodrome, 5kms from the Indigenous community of Lockhart River and at the gate way to the Iron Range National Park, the largest remaining lowland rainforest in Australia with at least 17 species of unique and rare bird life found nowhere else in Australia, including the Eclectus and Fig Parrots.
Providing that night of comfort after the long rough road of the Cape, the self contained cabins with kitchenette, T.V., aircon and a front veranda to enjoy the magnificent sunsets falling behind the ranges and the quiet cool air. Delicious home cooked meals available week nights or BBQ area for communal use.
The reception boasts a host of local talent from the world renowned “Lockhart River Artgang”, a group of young contempary artist along with the men and “Old Girls” who create art from their knowledge of traditions, languages, song, dance and dreamtime… Prints, paintings, weaving and traditional beading are available for purchase in the reception, along with the significant history of the Lockhart River Aerodrome during WWII which saw a large American Bomber base set up at Iron Range. Many old bunkers and rusting 44 gallon drums can still be found in bush areas.
